I really like these shoes and retuned them and kept the size 8.5 I ordered. I originally ordered the 8.5 but initially thought they might be a little too big. Two years ago I ended up with bloody toes in Paris. I took comfortable, broken in shoes but they didn't prepare me for the road conditions I encountered...so this time, I've spend a great deal of time researching and trying various shoes ( thank you Amazon Prime!), hoping to avoid a similar experience. I'll be using these on an upcoming trip to Italy so fit was essential (cobblestone roads, etc.). I decided to go with an Italian made shoe...hoping they know what they are doing since some of their clientele are native Italians. (I checked. They sell this same shoe in Italian stores...in the same and additional fashion colors).I decided to wear thicker socks, so the 8.5's turned out to be perfect. We'll see how they perform in their home country. Update: These shoes wore extremely well on the very rough terrane in Italy. 'M so glad I got them for the trip. Super comfortable!Just ordered the brown color as well. Love the fit! Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.Mephisto doesn't make half sizes or wide. I am a 7.5 C, but can wear non-wide shoes depending on the design and this fits fine in the width. The only reason I am not giving this five stars is that an 8 is just a little bit too long, but I love the brand and so put up with this. I was told that our feet spread and get larger with age and pregnancy and this is true for me because I used to be a 6 1/2 in my youth and now am a 7 1/2. Yes, I go barefoot a lot, but it is worth it.An app told me I could buy an 8M, and it fits okay but not ideal. I love the brand and have had wonderful shoes from them in the past. I just think for the price they ought to have half-sizes and don't know why they don't.I tried these on at Nordstroms when my Tsubo's killing my feet walking these hills of San Francisco. They were a $199.99 there and I found them HERE with a much better deal. These are my second pair of Mephistos in six months' time. I had purchased a pair for lots of being on my feet at work. I had previously owned three pairs of Sanrita (Emeril/Lisa) brand in secession for about seven to eight years. The second pair caused my right foot to have callous overgrowth from lack of 'breathing' from the shoes. I had started my first pair of Mephistos in the last week of December 2012. My foot is nearly back to 'normal'... (Yes, I had even visited two doctors with no avail at the time..) So THANK YOU, Mephistos for your quality and comfort! They are hand made and offer a 'tune up' service for a charge for when your shoes need to 'refreshed.' (What a great form of 'recycling'!!) I have found another pair of Mephisto deal on Amazon and this third pair is in transit! Do yourself a favor and make the investment and make your feet HAPPY!!I have bought these shoes several times (I love them for their look, comfort and the support they give), but I was concerned when I read that several people found the new versions too narrow, because I have a rather wide foot. I bought this pair with trepidation. The shoes were snug for about the first 3-4 wearings, but they have now settled in and are as comfortable as my old ones (which I alternate with these). I prefer shoes that fit perfectly on the first try, but these are such comfortable shoes that I'd be will to take a risk on them again. By the way, they last for a long time -- my old ones are apparently 5 years old, and I wore them almost daily. The leather is soft and beautiful as pictured. These shoes are very comfortable and I wore them over 10 hours the first day. I do think I will need to try them with custom orthotics when I get them for even better results when wearing them for extended periods because I have recurring issues with plantar fasciitis. The shoe has good mid-shoe rigidity but I think the toe area is probably too flexible based on what my podiatrist recommend. Regardless, I continue to wear for comfort. For people who do not have foot problems I think these shoes will work exceptionally well. I think the same will be true for me once my foot is fully healed. In the meantime, I do find the more rigid sole shoes by Drew are better while my tendons are sore.Mephistos a fit me better than any other and the insole, though a firmer feeling cushion, does more for your feet and knees. No tired legs and knees. One Mephisto secret is that toe box has enough height, which means you don't have to buy a longer shoe than you need just for a little wiggle room. A walking shoe needs wiggle room as your feet swell by the end of the day. The heel is also proportionately narrow. I wear a 38 in Mephisto, but a 39 in Ecco, if that helps anybody on sizing. I have the more expensive version of this shoe, the Rush, and can't say as there is any need to pay more for that. The taupe grey color with the black patent stripes will go with anything and is more attractive than it looks in the pictures.Great Walking Shoe! I took these shoes right out of the box, and took a long 3 hour walk. These shoes are amazing!! Usually, after long walks, I have tender feet and sore knees. But not these Mephisto Laser styled shoes. The Soft Air Technology, or Air Jet System, really made a difference in the comfort and support of my feet. My 6.5 size was true to form, and the width was perfect. Also, this shoe gives great arch support. This is my first pair of Mephisto shoes, and I will be ordering more styles in the future. These are by far better than any athletic, walking sneakers I have purchased. These shoes are a must for the serious walker!Comfortable but based on European sizing. I ordered an US 11 but it runs smaller. However, the shoes were very comfortable. I did give them to my mother because they do look 'old lady'.I have been buying Mephistos for over 20 years and I am always happy with this Brand. It is A1. MerciExtremely comfortable shoes. What a buy!Love it !!J'utiliserai ce produit pour la marche de tous les jours.
