I purchased this after researching all the options for installing a radar detector on my 09 Kawasaki Concours. As I'm a long-distance touring rider, the convenience and usability of the device on long rides was what mattered most. My requirements were:* Must wire into and mount onto the bike - I don't want wires going everywhere* Must have a visual alert system - I don't want to run a bunch of audio into my helmet, and I wear earplugs and can't hear much at highway speeds* Should be easy to remove & lock away, both for security and for legality in VA and DC* Should be weatherproof - I ride in all weather conditions, don't want a little rain ruining the deviceThe Adaptiv motorcycle-specific solution is the best for my style of biking. I installed the device on a RAM mount next to my GPS - the included baseplate has a standard APMs hole-pattern that made it simple to mount. The visual alert LEDs mounted just below my gauge cluster. In my normal sitting position on the bike, this puts the LEDs at the very bottom of my peripheral vision, and when they light up, they definitely get my attention. Note that the LEDs flash along with the signal strength, so without even looking at the device you can tell if the signal is strong or weak, just keep in mind that you do need to look at the display to see what kind of radar/laser signal it's receiving. The buttons on the device are simple and easy to operate while wearing gloves, and the LCD display is readable at a glance unless it is in direct sunlight. It's simple to attach and remove from the base plate, with just one cable to connect for powere and the visual alert. While I haven't ridden with it in the rain yet, it appears to be high quality construction and I would be surprised if moisture presents an issue. I don't have the time to be a do-it-yourselfer, but my local shop installed it all for me in less than 90 minutes. So far I've ridden one weekend with it. False alarms were minimal around town and non-existent on the highway. Once I got used to the visual alert, I never had to glance away from the road to know that big brother was watching. One thing that wasn't a requirement for me is size. I have a big bike, so the fact that this device is rather large didn't bother me. If you have a smaller sport bike, you will likely want to install this somewhere near the middle of your handlebars so it doesn't stick out too far. Big buttons with glove spacing make for a larger device, nothing anyone can do about that.UPDATE - Jan 2017 - still going strong after 3-4 seasons of all weather riding, no issues at all.
